each players requirements may be a little different and customization is not a problem
for example if you require a little more buzz to the sound or you would like it to be a little smoother playing different styles of padding can can applied
Pro overhaul 1
custom metal resonators
deluxe padding
Pro overhaul 2
custom metal resonators
the advantage with polyurethane is, the pads still look like normal leather, although the polyurethane sometimes darkens the leather slightly. Polyurethane seals leather very well, and pads last a long time. Also when it is allowed to cure for a few days, polyurethane doesn't make the pads sticky.
However, polyurethane takes several coats to completely protect a pad, there is a lot of time and labor involved. The time involved costs extra.
the sound will have a little less buzz but play a little smoother and a little bighter
Brecker prefered his pads without any coating for the sound
in my experience the coating works best for more traditional style jazz playing ,if you want the extra buzz dont use it.
